Abstract Osmosis is an important mcde of IDaSS transport in a hWllan body and its magniiiude determines to a large extent the performance of the most impor-ca.:1t fu.actions of differen~ organs and cells. O’?:i~1g to the nutual interactions bet\7e3n different forces GnG flu:,,:es affecting 8 certain biological system, it is not easy to develop a meaningful quantitative relationships for different variables and constants controlling ofJll11atic pb.enomena. However, the parametric study for osmosis needs ne\’1 approach for com- partmental modelil1g for vivo and vitro experimentation. The object of the present work is to elucidate 80me of the transport, processes involving osmosis in different body comparements. Special interest was focused upon the role ~f transport by osmosis in artificial kidney with the object of predicting the concentration profile for species of interest in human blood. The properties of Eg~Tptian cellophane were studied to check its suitab~ ility for hemodialysis. A mathematical model was f0~~lulated to predict the change in the concentration of a substance, which undergoes pass ive mode of transport nnd for which no membrane |
