Abstract A dome is a three dimensional structure generated hy translation and rotation or only rotation of an arch fIb. Thus a dome may be a part of a sphere, ellipsoid, paraboloid or similar curved surfaces. It could be also of curved or polygonal plan.A simple trussed dome is mainly a curved surface composed of a single layer of prismatic structural ele-mcnts arranged and connected together to form a regular pattern of divisions of the surface. (Figure 1-1) shows a generation of a dome by translation of an arch rib, and (I-Igure 1-2) shows a trussed dome having divisions forming triangular elements for the surface. Analysis of trussed domes has always been an interesting subject, owing to the high degrees of inde¬terminancy of such structures. Different simplified methods based on analogies, or certain conditions and assumptions have been developed to facilitate such ana¬lysis. However, such simplified solutions can not be used for analysis of trussed domes under general struc¬tural conditions, such as openings for doors, windows, top monitors, etc. For such cases either experimental. |
