Abstract A computer based theoretical method has been developed to analyse reinforced concrete frames in the elastic-and plastic ranges. The proposed method takes into consideration on the formation of plastic hinges and the rotational capaci¬ties of the critical sections in predicting the collapse load. The initial assumption of the plastic hinge positions is avoided. The possibility of partial collapse or any lack of stability can be predicted,.within, the proposed program. Five portal frames were tested to check the validity of this proposed method and to study the effect of different factors on the rotational capacity of concrete sections and consequently on the redistribution of moments. Eight study cases were also solved and analysed by the proposed program. The selected cases involve different types of concrete frames and different load patterns. The theoretical results were compared with the experimental results and conclusions were drawn. |
