Abstract

he most exact ar~ accurate representation of the sy nchronous ma.chine is essential to nake proper power systen: studies.
The choice of the adequate representation must be made in consideration of the type of disturbanoe to be studied.
Mathematical models of automatic voltage regulator, (AVR) /exci ter and turbine/governor can be included ir. grea t details Ivi th facili ty to iwclude sophisticated practical systerrs
The state-space approach has been used to represent machine, AVR and governor by a system of non-linear differential equations during trar .• sient disturbances.
Kutta-Merson’s integration procedure has been used ir. tbis study. ~oreover, the local truncation error is estimated by introducing an additional fur.ction at each step and calculating the accumulation of error.
The sh.afts of the steam-turbine driving the generator can be subjected to dangerous large torques under certain system disturbances. Attention is focused upon methods of oalculating these torques.
Fault tests for this study were three-phase short¬oircuit on a 660 MW generator set.
