Abstract

The acceleration transient torque of the balanced three-phase induction motor operating from a balanced single frequency voltage-supply have been investigated by a combination of numerical techniques and analytical
methods. A critical review is given for the variousreference frame formulations of the induction motordynamics and the efficiency of the methods for solving the dynamic equations has be2nassessed. The modal approach is presented as a comprehensive framework around which the numerical results are ystematically organized and such subjects as acceleration transients and non imultaneous nwitching are unified. The problem of predicting torque transient in three-phaEe induction motor under condition of non-simultaneous switching of the supply is formulated. Detailed attention is given to the dentification of the physical modes and to understanding their behaviouralchanges
as a function of rotor speed. The m.m.f
space-vector viewpoint is presented to give a description of the airgap magnetic field interactions in the production of transient torque a.nd the possibility of supersynchronous speeds
during transients.
