Abstract

The goal of this research was to determine the thermodynamics of adsorption of para nitroaniline PNA and 1,4-diamino-2 methoxy-anthraquinone(c.i.*Disperse red 11)
On activated carbon and to mathematically describe the experimentally desribe the experimental results.PNA was adsorbed on carbon from aqueous solution at two temperatures 22 and 50 and disperse red 11 was adsorbed on carbon from different water-dimethy formamide(DMF)solvents at three different temperature 22,60,and 80C.Equilibrium times for the adsorption of those two solutes on carbon were determined. Then equilibrium adsorption experiments were carried out to develop the adsorption isotherm in each case.Computer programs were written to fit the data to the langmuir adsorption model to plot the data and to calculate the affinity, heat and entropy of adsorption. It was found that adsorption of PNA on carbon from aqueous solution and adsorption of disperse red 11 on carbon in water-DMF solvents and in pure DMF solvent fits the langmuir model reasonably well.
