Abstract

Earlier detection of glaucoma would enable better assessment of the progression of the disease and allow earlier treatment if indicated. Asglaucomatous disc changes may precede visual field loss by several years.
So early detection of optic neve changes leads to early diagnosis andmanagement of POAG.
The most important advantage in the DDLS is that , it depends on optic disc size .
Our work estimated the reliability of disc damage likelihood scale by correlating its stages with visual field changes in the cases of primary open angle glaucoma.
All patients in this study were subjected to : white on white automated perimetry using Automated Humphery Field Analyser 750 (30-2programme) with correction of any refractive error.
The selected patients are subjected to optic disc photography (coloured and red free photos).
Thirty eyes ( 19 patients ), who were diagnosed as POAG , were classified into DDLS stages according to optic disc size and rim/disc ratio from stage two to sex.
Correlation between DDLS stages and PSD of patients was significant and evaluated using Pearson one tailed correlation test (r = 0.566 ,P<0.001).
In conclusion DDLS is a new important scale for estimation of damage of optic disc in cases of POAG and is highly correlated with visual field changes.
