Abstract

The positive identification of a person could be achieved by the recognition of the characters and features which differentiate a certain person from others.
Human retinae have unique vascular anatomy amongst mammals in having a region in temporal retina specialized for high visual acuity (Fovea) which is also distinguished from other parts of the same retina.
Retina recognition technology captures and analyzes the pattern of retinal blood vessels which are suggested to be of highly distinctive traits i.e. every eye suggested to have its own totally unique pattern of retinal blood vessels that remains stable over a person’s life time.
In fact, according to the most recent National Institute of Justice Research Report on Entry-Control Technologies, retina scanners are considered the most accurate of all biometric devices.
Human retinal vasculature could be investigated through different methods of which the most common one is fluorescein retinal angiography which facilitates the in-vivo study of the retinal circulation and it is an important tool in the understanding, diagnosis and treatment of retinal disorders.
All the above provide a framework which validate the study of retinal vasculature in human identification researches.
