Abstract A study was undertaken in order to investigate some materials a potential dry binders for direct compression in tablet mann— facture. The results obtained in this study indicate : 1. Comparative flow rates of the various binders were in the following descending order : mannitol, plasdone (pv), tragacanth and then carbowax 4000. Improved flowability of binder particles was reflected in the less variation in the weight of disks made by compressing each binder separately. 2. The rate of water sorption by the binders investigated was iii. tho following descending order : plasdone (pp), tragaoanth, Carbowax 4000 and then mannitol. The rate of water sorption ].ayed an important role in affecting hardness, friability, Lisintogratjofl and dissolution pattern of the tablets made with these binders. 3. Hardness—friability ratio (H.F.R.) of the dis made with ho various binders was found to be in the following descending frdor : plasdone tragacanth, carbowax 4000 and then maimitol LO comparable particle sizes. |
