Abstract

Abstract No doubt that media violence plays an important role in children’s life. It has a positive and negative effect. One of its negative effects is aggressive behavior which is very dangerous for children. The aim of the study was to assess the effect of media violence on aggressive behavior among primary school children. The sample consisted of 260 student and eight teachers of the Third and Fourth year primary school. Data were collected from two primary schools in Shebin El-Kom .The study design was a descriptive design. Data were collected using four tools, (1) an interviewing questionnaire, (2) Aggression scale for children, (3) Scale for violent media, (4) Teacher rating scale for aggression. The results revealed that 52% of the studied subjects were in the age group of 8 to less than 10 years, while only 48%were in the age group of 10-11 years. Also 55% were male and 45% were female and the majority of them had a working mother, 85.8% liked watching TV. 68.8% liked internet games and games including more than one player, 60.8% liked carateè, 61.9% liked action movies, 56.9% not gone to play station alone, 41.9% loved violent sport. In conclusion, the result of this study indicated a relation between child’s aggressive behavior and media violence .This means that aggressive child prefers violent media such as violent artists or players and violent computer or videogames and also violent cinema’s movies. It is recommended that encourage discussions with children about what they are seeing and point out positive behavior, such as cooperation, friendship, and concern for others and facilitate parental monitoring of children’s access to media
