Abstract

Aim of the work
The aim of the work is the use of serum leptin as a predictive factor for cardiac troubles in haemodialysed patients.
Summary and Conclusion
This study was done on CRF patients as a trial to assess the availability of using serum leptin level as a predictor of CVD (hypertension) in CRFpatients on hemodialysis.
In the current study, 70 individuals were divided as follows:
-Group I included 20 apparently healthy individuals as the control group.
-Group II included 20 patients with chronic renal failure without hypertension
-Group III included 30 patients with chronic renal failure with hypertension.
The mean value of leptin was significant higher in groups (II and III) when compared with the control group, but no significant difference was found on comparing group II with group III.
As regard BUN, Serum creatinine & AST ,there was a significant increase in group II and group III when compared to group I but no significant difference between group II &III when compared to each other .
As regard CPK, CK-MB, LDH, CRP &lipid profile, there was a significant increase in group II &group III when compared to group I but no significant difference between group II & group III when compared to each other.
There was no significant correlation between serum leptin and CPK, CK-MB, LDH, CRP in group II & group III.
It can be concluded that the measurement of leptin level can not be used as a predictor of CVD (hypertension) in patients with CRF on dialysis.
Recommendations
From this study, it can be recommended the following:
-Further study on a large scale including greater number of patients with CRF on hemodialysis with follow up.
- Other markers are needed to be studied for its role in prediction of CVD in CRF patients include:
1- ) Fibrinogen
2- ) TNF
3- ) IL6
