Abstract
Patient education hes always been an integral part of quality health care, particularly in the area of diabetes The extensive amount if patient self care involved in diabetes management has made patient education an essential component of the treatment plan. written educational materials are essential components of a comprehensive educational program. to be effective and useful, educational materials must meet the specific needs of the target patient population
Developing quality educational materials include several steps: Conducting a need assessment, establishment of learning objectives, writing the text and evaluating the material. content, style, Iayout, color, and illustrations all influence readability and quality. Most important, good quality educational materials promote the relationship between the patients and the health professionals as well as enhance patients’ knowledge end self-care.the aim of this study was to develop visual educational materials for low-ilterate adult diabetics. the study was conducted at outpatient diabetic clinic in the main university hospital. the sample included 100 low-literate adult diabetics which were divided into 2 groups: the group A represented the assessment the assessment phase group (control group) comprised 20 low literate diabetics and group B (experimental group comprised 80Low-literate diabetics.
