Abstract
The plant kingdom seems to be a stroe house for various chemical compounds. Some of these chemical compounds are physiologically potent and are of great value in medicine. Family Gramineae includes about 620 genera dand about 1000 species, mostly herbs with fibrous roots, rarely shurbs or trees. It contains a very wide range of constituents such as volatile oils, straches, sugars, saponins, phenolic acids, flavonoids, cyanogenetic substances and terpenoids.
