Abstract Chicks used in this study hatched in June 1976, and the high temperature of the summer had a deleterious effect on growth rate, but the birds were able to compensate for the retarted growth rate by the end of the growing period. The results showed a high positive genotypic correlation of 0.97 between the body weight at 12 weeks and 16 weeks of age. The results show also the presence of a high positive genetic correlation between age at first egg and egg weight, and this confirms that late maturity hens lay bigger eggs. It was also shown that there is phynotypic correlations of considerable magnitude between age at first egg and both weight of hen and egg weight. |
