Abstract

The bond between concrete and steel reinforcing bars refers to its ability to endure weathering action, attack by various chemical substances and many other conditions to which it may be exposed over the years. This thesis considers many factors which affect the bond between concrete and steel reinforcing bars. To achieve this goal the experimental program was prepared including the following factors; Cover thickness, concrete category, exposure condition (aggressive media), development length, steel coating, poly-propylene fiber content and steel diameter of reinforcing beams. To study the effect of these factors on the durability and properties of concrete, the following tests were done; pull out test, flexural strength test, and steel weight loss test.
A fractional factorial method of the experimentation was considered for the
organization of the beams experiments and analysis of the The analysis of variance (ANOVA) table was performed on the results obtained to check the significance of each factor. The main advantages of this method are measurementinteraction between factors which cannot be achieved by classical methods of experimentation and it provides a statistically mathematical approach for the analysis of the results at a latter stage. Based on the work undertaken here in, the following conclusions can be found.
