Abstract

The introduction of Percutaneous Trans luminal coronary angioplasty (PTCA) by Andreas Gruntzig in 1977 has been a break through in the practice of cardiology. Initially PTCA was restricted to patients with single vessel disease with lesions that are proximal, discrete, and noncalcific However, nowadays more patients are being subjected to PC1 who have multi-vessel disease, complex lesions, chronic total occlusions and lesions in bypass grafts with high success rates. Despite many patient-related factors and procedural factors may influence immediate PTCA outcome, coronary lesion morphology remains the most important predictor of acute PTCA success and complications (Ellis et al., 1990). In our study we investigate 50 patients with angiographically documented CTO who were candidate for elective PCI.
