Abstract The new low-rate sulfonanilide herbicides DE 498 (flumetsulam) and DE 511 (metosulam) were experimentally tested as pre-emergence treatments against maize weeds in Minia region during 1993 and 1994. Efficiencies of both new herbicides at different rates of application were compared with those of the recommended weed control treatments (atrazine 600 gm.a.i/fed. as pre-emergence, fluroxypyr 40 gm.a.i./fed. as post-emergence and hand hoeing twice at 15 and 28 days after sowing ).The effects of herbicidal treatments on maize growth, yield and yield components were also considered. Unweeded control treatment was used as a reference. |
