Abstract

Diabetes Mellitus is a group of metabolic diseases characterized by hyperglycemia resulting from defects in insulin secretion, insulin , action or both. The chronic hyperglycemia of diabetes is associated with long-term damage, dysfunction and failure of various organs, especially the eyes, kidneys, nerves, heart and blood vessels. The insulin resistance syndrome. (syndrome X, metabolic syndrome) has become the major health problem of our times. It is a multifaceted syndrome characterized by obesity, hypertension, insulin resistance, glucose intolerance and dyslipidemia. The clinical importance of this syndrome is mainly due to the clustering of simultaneously occurring atherosclerotic risk factors in the same individual.
