Abstract Systemic Lupus Erythematosus (SLE) is an inflammatory autoimmune disorder that may affect multiple organs , many of its clinical manifestations are secondary to the trapping of antigen-antibody complexes in capillaries of various organs or to auto-antibody mediated destruction of host cells. The clinical course is marked by spontaneous remission and relapse. The severity may vary from a mild episodic disorder to a rapidly fulminant life threatening illness .Diagnosis of SLE should be suspected in any patient having multi-system disease with serological positivity. There were many laboratory tests to diagnose SLE ,some of them are sensitive but not specific as ANA (Anti Nuclear Antibody), others, are specific but, not sensitive as anti-dsDNA( anti double strand DNA) and anti-sm( anti smith antibodies) . In this study, we will try to study the new advances in diagnosis of SLE as, Antibodies to SSA/RO , SSB/LA , Ribosomal P-pro:cin , Anti-chromatir. antibodies and Anti-Clq .... etc.We will also discuss the old and recent lines in SLE treatment like, non steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs) , anti-malarial drugs , corticosteroids , cytotoxic drugs as methotrexate, azathioprine, cyclophosphamide, chlorambucil, cyclosporins , mycophenolate , rituximab , plasma pheresis and other drugs under trial as sex hormones, bromocriptine, cytokines.... etc. |
