Abstract Quantum size effect appears when the film thickness becomes of the order of de Broglie wavelength of carriers in any different domains. In this theoretical study three shapes of wire are considered, namely, rectangular, square, and circular cross-sectional wires under size quantization conditions. Each cross section has dimensions comparable with de Brogile wavelength of the carrier. According to the effectively free electron model, Schroedinger equation was solved in cartesian and cylindrical coordinates. |
