Abstract

This study was initiated during 2005 and 2006 seasons on Superior grapevines in a private vineyard located at Luxor district. The goal of this study was examining the effect of berry thinning, Gibberellic acid as well as the two antioxidants namely citric and ascorbic acids as possible means to improve the yield as well as physical and chemical properties of Superior grapes. The effect of these treatments on shot berries and maturation was also concerned Cane pruning system with Gable shape supporting method was adopted.
The experiment included two factors. The first factor comprised from the eight treatments of berry thinning namely; check treatment, berry thinning by removing 2.0, 4.0 and 6.0 cm from clusters terminals, berry thinning by removing lateral alternatively, and berry thinning by removing 2.0, 4.0 and 6.0 cm from clusters terminals + removing lateral in each. While the second factor contained the following GA3 and antioxidant treatments namely; check treatment, spraying either ascorbic or citric acid or their combination at 500 ppm, sprayingGA3 at 30 ppm and spraying all the previous materials.
According to the obtained data, berry thinning by removing 6.0 cm from clusters terminal + removing laterals alternatively in combined with foliar application of citric and ascorbic acid each at 500 ppm three times with GA3 at 30 ppm once is suggested to be the beneficial and the optimum horticultural practices for the production of high yield and quality of Superior grapes under the experimental and resembling conditions.
