Abstract

The present study is concerned with enhancing the rate of electro polishing of flat plate work pieces by using stirred solutions to this end the system Cu-H3PO4 was chosen to conduct the present study in view of its simplicity and free from complications two different methods were used to agitate the solution, namely mechanical stirring using a rotating axial flow impeller (4blade45 pitched turbine)
And gas sparring using N2 bubbles variables studied were physical properties of the solution such as solution density viscosity and diffusivity of Cu++, impeller rotation speed superficial gas viscosity and work piece height the data were correlated to the two modes of stirring using the method of dimensional analysis the correlation obtained can be used in practice by the production engineer to predict the limiting current required to polish the flat plate work pieces under given set of hydrodynamic conditions for the economic evolution of the two stirring modes power consumed in rotating the impeller and sparing N2 in the rectangular cell were determined: it was found that for a given rate of polishing mechanical agitation is more economic than gas sparging under the present conditions
