Abstract Isolation, production, biosynthesis as well as the mode of action of the antibiotic As-I-228 have been thoroughly investigated. The present work was initiated by isolating about 500 organisms of the genus Streptomyces from different soil samples collected from Iraq Arab Republic. A primary survey of the potentialities of the different isolates for the production of antimicrobial metabolites was tested using starch-nitrate medium and different test organisms including both Gram - positive and Gram negative bacteria as well as some fungi. One hundred different isolates possessed antagonistic prpperites and were given serial numbers from 201 to 300 (Table5). The most Potent isolate (No. 228) was selected for further studies in the present work. Streptomyces As-I-228 was allowed to grow on strach - nitrate medium for 3 daysat 28°c under submerged condition. |
