Abstract

The aim of study was to determine whether a relationship exists between cell wall structure in a particular host and synthesis and activity of polysaccharide degrading enzymes produced by a particular pathogen. In other words whether cell wall structure contributes to the host-pathogen interaction and determination of host resistance and susceptibility. For this purpose, the following aspects were studied:1-The in-vitro production of cell wall degrading enzymes by some fungal pathogens on isolated host and non-host plants.2-The isenzymatic composition of pectic enzymes produced by the pathogen on isolated host and non-host cell walls.3-the sensitivity of different isolated cell walls to the hydrolytic action of degrading enzymes by a particular pathogen.4-Analysis of monosaccharides in cell walls before and after enzymolysis by degrading enzymes.5-the possible participation of other wall constituents such as phenolic compounds and ca in the resistance mechanisms.7-The possible role of some host cell wall constituents in the host-parasite interaction and expression of resistance and susceptibility.
