Abstract This work aims to study the possibility of preparing low-flux dead-burned CaO-MgO grains with improved refractory properties, usin~ local raw materials. This target could be achieved through studying the effect of firing temperatures. firing process and minor additions of Fe203, Ti02, ilmenite and chromite, on the densification of the local dolomite and magnesite raw materialS. The dense grains of dolomite and magnesite that having the highest bulk denslt~ and the The raw materials’ used for the preparation of the stUdied CaO-MgO refractories are Egyptian dolomite and magnesite. The chemical and mineralogical composition of dolomite is of high purity grade. It composes mainl~ of the dolomite mineral [Ca. Mg. (COJ)2] and contaminated with less than 1.0% of the impurity oxides Si02• Fe203 and A1203. On the other hand, the raw Magnesite is of the dolomitic type. (f.1gC03). |
