Abstract The present study was carried out to investigate the potentiality of a local Aspergillus isolate to produce citric acid. The identification of the isolate and using ultraviolet as well as some chemical mutagens to induce an appropriate mutation with high potentiality to produce citric acid were carried out. Reducing the cost of the fermentation medium by using agro-industrial by-products as carbon and nitrogen sources was achieved. This was followed by optimization of the fermentation medium constituents and fermentation conditions for high citric acid yield. |
