Abstract The present investigat1on concerned brown and sour rots of citris fruits; two citrus fruit diseases prevailent during Storage, transit and marketing of citrus fruits in El-Minia governorate. Identification studies proved that the brown rot is caused by Alternaria citri ellis & Pierce, while the sour rot by geotrichum candidum LK. ex Pars. ten isolates ofA.citri (4 isolates from mandarin, 3 from Navel orange, and 1 from each of lemon, sweet orange and Baladi orange and four isolates of G. candidum(2 isolates from lemon, and 1 from each of navel orange and sweet orange) were secured from naturally infected fruits. All isolates of both fungi were tested for relative pathogenicity on mandarin and Navel orange.according to that test, isolates varied with regard to their relative pathogenic propensities. Isolates A.10 of A.citri and G4. of G. candidum proved to be most pathogenic, whereas isolates A7 And G1 - _ ( of the named fungi, respectively) showed to be least pathogenic. in the further experimental work, either all these for isolates or only the two more pathogenic ones were used. |
