Abstract The present investigation was undertaken, to obtain some informations on the potentialies of manufactured tobaccos as a source of inoculum, with TMV, which represents a devastating mosaic agent for many cultivated plants in and outside the Solanac eae, the members of which, particularly the tomatoes, are of major economic importance in Egypt.The obtained results could be briefly summerized asFollows:1 - TMV infectivity assays of 400 samples representing 45brands of manufactured tobacco [20 brands of cigarettes, 10 of Maasel ( a famous domestic brand ), 4 of chewing tobacco, 4 of cigars, 3 of tobacco for rolling, 3 of snuff, and 1 of pipe tobacco ] revealed that various forms of manufactured tobacco (with the exception of snuff) are potential sources of TMV inoculum.2 - Percent infestation of local products of manufactured tobacco appeared to be as follows : Cigarettes, 60 %; Tobacco for rolling, 43 %; ”Maasel” tobacco, 36 %; Chewing tobacco, 17 %; Snuff, 0 %. |
