Abstract Water is the lifeblood of the biospher, constantly moving across borders between the atmosphere, the land, the ocean, and back again.Today the most easily accessible parts of renewable freshwater resources, in rivers,in lakes, and in aquifers, have already been a subject of exploitation . The total amount of water available for human development and welfare and ecosystem functioning, is the same today as it has been throughout history, only much is now of poorer quality and differently distributed. The amount of water will basically remain the same also for future generation. Over this century the withdrawal has increased by a factor five whereas the population increase has been only a factor of three during the same period. The major reasons for this increased demand are industrial growth, increased urbanization and change in life-style and the population growth. This work aims at evaluating the water quality of water resources for irrigation and drinking water in El-Minia, Governorate . The water resources studied included irrigation canals and drains of different orders, as well as groundwater wells used for irrigation or can be used for drinking A hundred and ten sampling sites were chosen to represent the water resources |
