Abstract This study was carried out in the soil science department of the faculty of agriculture, Mania University to evaluate the shale deposits of EL- Mania governorate as a natural Soil conditioner and to study their effects on some chemical and physical properties of the coarse textured soils as well as crop performance in these soils. The two investigated soils (sand and calcareous) were treated with shale’s by six rates of application (10, 20, 40, 60, 80, and 100 ton /fed.). Pot experiments with broad and corn as test crop were conducted to study the effect of shale’s on plant growth, yield, water consumption, water use efficiency, nutrients concentration and up take, chemical properties and content of nutrients in sandy and calcareous soils after their treatment with shale’s and cultivation Experiments with columns were conducted to study the effect of shale’s on some soil physical properties |
