Abstract Catalysts investigated in this study are unsupported and supported manganese oxide catalysts, where silica and alumina were used as supports. Wet impregnation method was applied for preparing the supported catalysts using different manganese precursors namely, manganese acetate, oxalate and nitrate. The solution concentration, to give 10-Wt percent Mn. Calcination were performed at 600 and 1000°C. Model manganese oxides (commercially available oxides) were used as reference oxides. Catalytic activity of supported and unsupported MnOx catalysts, as well as the model oxides MnO, Mn3O4, Mn203 and MnO2 were carried out using reactions of isopropanol decomposition and ethanol decomposition as model reactions to investigate the acid-base properties of these catalysts. In addition, conventional physicochemical techniques (TG, DTA, XRD, IR, DRS and N2-adsorption) were also performed for bulk and surface texture characterization. Crystalline phases obtained according to the results of the above mentioned techniques are summarized in the following table: |
