Abstract

The genus Pseudomonas encompasses arguably the most diverse and ecologically significant group of bacteria on planet. Members of the genus are found in large numbers in all of the major natural environments and also form intimate associations with plants and animals. Their universal distribution suggests a remarkable degree of physiological and genetic adaptability. Fluorescent pseudomonads are a diverse group within this genus distinguished by their ability to produce under iron-limitation, water-soluble yellow green fluorescent pigments called pyoverdine. Our present study was concemed with the isolation of heavy metals resisatant bacteria belonging to the fluorescent pseudomonads. It was also aimed to study the relation between siderophores production and their role in heavy metal resistance.
