Abstract DHPG (dihydroxy propoxy methyl guanine): it is a new anti viral drug that has potent activity against human CMV. It is reported that DHPG has therapeutic response to the treatment of CMV retinitis in AIDS patients. Interferon: it is a natural cell product made by virus infected or challenged cells which can travel to other cells where it sets up a general state of resistance in the new cell; not only to the original challenging virus but also to a variety of others viruses. Therefore; its spectrum is a broad one. Varieties of interferon include alpha, beta, gamma interferon. In combination with virostatics; interferon was reported to be more effective than virostatics alone. Clinical studies have shown that interferon enhanced the antiviral effect of acyclovir against HSV, VZV and CMV in vitro; suggesting a therapeutic potential for such combination therapy. |
