Abstract Aim of the work As glaucoma is a common and important public health problem. This thesis aims at determining the incidence of glaucoma among patients attending ophthalmic department outpatient clinic at EL-Minia university hospital. Clinical evaluation and classification according to the results are done and the incidence is tabulated. Conclusion In this study, the incidence of glaucoma in general was (2.7%). Eight different types of glaucoma were diagnosed, these are primary closed angle glaucoma was (1.51%), secondary closed angle (0.03%), primary open angle (0.77%), secondary open angle (0.03%), congenital (0.01), low tention (0.13%), aphakic (0.03%) and secondary glaucoma intumescent cataract (0.01%). In some glaucomatous patients, a local or a systemic disease was associated with it. Such as myopia is present in 16% of cases, cataract in 12.4%, and systemic hypertension in 3.7% and diabetes mellitus in 2.5%. The commenst central field changes was isolated paracentral scotoma which present in (16.69%) and the commenst peripheral field changes were nasal contraction (31.25%). |
