Abstract The aim of this work is to study the diagnostic potentials of these tumor markers and to correlate serum levels of these markers with other known prognostic factors in breast cancer cases. Also these markers will be correlated together to deduce any diagnostic and prognostic value from the combination of 2 or more tumor markers in monitoring breast cancer cases. This will be done in an attempt to determine whether biochemical screening could supplement present methods of staging and perhaps provides more logical basis then lymph node histology for treatment decisions and post operative adjuvant therapy. This study shows the prime importance for mass screening program in Egypt as most of the cases in this study presented late with axillary nodal involvement. Until this program is available, every effort must be done to educate Egyptian females breast self examination and to stress upon the importance of early presentation as this is the only way to decrease the morbidity and mortality of this disease. This work demonstrates that all known tumor markers are of a prognostic value more than a diagnostic one. We are still in need for an ideal tumor marker which can pick up and diagnose breast cancer cases while still un detected clinically. If we can find this weapon, the problem of occult metastasis will be solved and cure from breast cancer will be achieved. |
