Abstract Aim of the work To put light on this subject of obesity as regards the etiological factors, hazards and management including surgical types of treatment in failure of other types of management. Summary Jejuno- ileal by pass surgery is most effective and most dangerous treatment for massive obesity. There is a significant operative mortality as well as serious complications including: liver failure, malnutrition, oxalate nephrolithiasis, intestinal obstruction and poly-arthritis. Gastric restrictive operations are designed to prevent excessive caloric intake of morbidly obese. Present procedure used for weight reduction which is liposuction. The technique of aspiration of deposits of fat through small incisions using appropriate sized canulae and high powered suction. The oberation is best carried out on areas where there is well localized of fatty deposits. Non surgical treatment for obesity is the intragastric balloon. In intragastric balloon treatment the inflated balloon occupies a portion of the gastric volume and reduces capacity for food. It is non invasive, reversible and is an easy method. It is advisable to obese patients who are surgically unfit. |
