Abstract
Aim of the work
To put our fingerprints over various aspects of therapeutic uses of laparoscopy, stressing on advantages, disadvantages and complications of this promising recent tool.
Summary
This essay included a through report on the therapeutic uses of the laparoscope in general surgery which are: chleceystectomy, choledocholithitomy, herniorraphy, chronic duodenal ulcer, perforated peptic ulcer, splenectomy, cardiopexy of hiatus hernia, resection of liver hydatid cyst, gastrojejunostomy, cholecystojejunostomy. Colectomy, percutaneous gastrostomy & jejunostomy, nephrectomy and colostomy.
Laparoscope is not a benign procedure; it is associated with major and minor surgical and non surgical complications, including death, which are discussed in brief in this essay. Also, the advantages and disadvantages of laparoscope are discussed on each surgical procedure.
Lastly, it is expected that these laparoscopic techniques, with possible modifications on the future, will become the procedure of choice in managing various gastrointestinal diseases.
