Abstract The aim of this study is studying the changes which may occur in prostaglandins (PGE2 & PGF1) in the tissue of the tonsils in cases of chronic tonsillitis. From the results of this study the following conclusions were obtained: 1- Young age group (4-7 years) has more intense tonsillitis than older age groups (8-12 years) and (13-18 years). 2- Young age group (4-7 years) has higher levels of both prostaglandin E2 and 6-keto-prostaglandin. 3- Young age groups (4-7 years) and (8-12 years) have higher levels of prostaglandin E2 more than 6-keto-prostaglandin F1 alpha. 4- Older age group (13-18 years) has higher levels of 6-keto-prostaglandin F1 Alpha more than prostaglandin F2. 5- Prostaglandin F2 is secreted from lymphocytes to tonsils. 6- Older age group (13-18 years) has more fibrotic tonsils than younger age groups. 7- Estimation of prostaglandin E2 and 6-keto-PGF1 Alpha in plasma of patients of chronic tonsillitis may be added as a new method of investigation. |
