Abstract The present work aims at finishing of knitted cotton fabric intended for use as lining in athletic garments antibacterial properties(against Staphylococcus aureus G+ve and Pseudomonas aeruginosa, G-ve bacteria), without affecting its natural ability to absorb moisture. a leaching type antibacterial agent (namely Tinosan®CEL) and a non leaching type antibacterial agent (namely Sanitized®T99-19) were incorporated in an easy care finishing formulation for knitted cotton fabric. Finishing was conducted at different conditions including type of softener, crosslinker and catalyst as well as Tinosan®CEL and Sanitized®T99-19 concentrations in addition to curing time and temperature. by the pad-dry-cure method. Analysis of variance (ANOVA) of data obtained was carried out at P value ≤ 0.05. The impact of Tinosan®CEL and Sanitized®T99-19 treatments on whiteness index, surface roughness, drape coefficient, air permeability, bursting strength, abrasion resistance and crease recovery angle of the fabric was investigated. Durability of antibacterial activity, expressed as inhibition clear zone and reduction of bacterial count % after 1, 10 and 25 washing cycles. |
