Abstract
This thesis is composed of three parts. In the first part a critical survey of the therapeutically active tranquillizers has been carried out.
In the second part four N—aryl substituted phenothiazine
derivatives were prepared by Ulmann s reaction namely
1) Phenothiazine N—ni—tolyl. (new)
2) Phenothiazine N—phnyl.
3) Phenothiazine N—O--tolyl.
4) Phenothiazine N—P-.tolyl.II I RI+K2C03

Two N—substituted alkyl and alicyclic phenothiazine deriva— tives were also prepared by the action of phenothiazine A-, sodamide and the halogenated derivative of the side chain namely:—
5) Phenothiazine N—(2—hydroxy—3—diethylamino) -propyl.
