Abstract Aim of the work To evaluate the importance of DMSA scintigraphy in early detection or renal cortical scarring in children with urinary tract infections. Conclusion 1- DMSA scan is more reliable method than ultrasonogrphy in early detection of renal cortical scarring in cases of UTI. 2- UTI clinical features are important in assessing the need for DMSA imaging. 3- The clinician should be free to recommend a DMSA scan in a child with a history suggestive of acute pyelonephritis or in cases of frequent recurrences of UTI. 4- DMSA scan should be added to the initial work-up of children with UTI. 5- Patient with DMSA photon defects must be treated at hospital to be sure proper compliance of treatment to avoid long sequale. |
