Abstract

IMPACT OF WHEAT GERM IN IMPROVEMENT MINERALS AND IMMUNOLOGICAL STATUS IN RATS This study was undertaken to study the role of wheat germ feeding in improvement of serum minerals levels and immunity indices in experimental animals (Rats). Twenty-eight adults male albino rats were randomly allocated in seven groups each one contain four rats. Control group was fed wheat germ-free basal diet. Groups I, II, III, IV, V and VI were fed experimental basal diet with supplementation levels with wheat germ as 5, 10, 15, 20, 25 and 30% respectively. The nutritional course with wheat germ was extended up to four weeks At the end of feeding course, lipid profiles (Total cholesterol Triglycerides, Phospholipids, HDL-c, VLDL-c, LDL-c, and Free Fatty Acids), renal functions (Creatinine and Urea levels) and liver functions SGOT, SGPT and ALP) were assessed in addition to evaluation both of bone and serum minerals profile (Ca, P, Mg, Fe, Zn, and I). Immunity indices (Total Immunoglobulins, IgG, CD+4 and CD+8) were also examined beside hepatic detoxifying enzymes titre (GSH, GSHP GSSGR, GST, g-GT, and Catalase Obtained results revealed that group II that received 10% of wheat germ had a significant decreased in body weight than other groups. Group VI that fed 30% of wheat germ illustrated a significant decreased in lipids profile, liver enzymes titre, and kidney functions as well as group V that fed 25% of wheat germ showed a significant decrease in GOT and ALP.
