Abstract This study aims foe evaluation of the four diagnostic modalities in different breast lesions (clinical, mammography, breast ultrasonography, and FNAB) in comparison with the final histpathologic study either alone or a combination of two or more of them. The histological diagnosis in our study was benign in 56% of cases and malignant in 44%. This incidence of malignant lesions was high because these cases were collected from our university hospital which represents a referral center to which the clinically suspicious breast lesions are referred. By comparing the sensitivity and diagnostic accuracy every method alone or combination of these methods, we found that the combined strategy for diagnosing any breast lesion by the use of the four diagnostic tools were considered the most safe and accurate strategy to reach a final diagnosis without increasing the rate of unnecessary biopsies and allowing the clinician to discuss diagnosis and management with the patient at the initial clinic attendance avoiding delay and added anxiety. So, we can safely recommend the followings: 1- Any breast lesion should be taken seriously to exclude the breast cancer. 2- FNAB cab be safely recommended as a simple, rapid, safe, cost saving and dependable outpatient method for diagnosis of breast lesions in our hospital. The usage of the four diagnostic tools considered a successful strategy in diagnosing both benign and malignant lesions. |
