Abstract In this work one hundred and seventy patients with symptomatic gall stone disease will be subjected to Laparoscopic Cholycystectomy and the results of their managements will be presented and compared with the results of other authors to evaluate the procedure and to establish its safety, advantages and place in the management of gall stone disease. Modern laparoscopic design and modern instrumentation together with the new technology in television cameras and screens have made Laparoscopic Cholycystectomy possible and safe procedure for treating gall stone disease. The appeal of the newly developed techniques is that it constitutes a form of minimal access of a standard cholycystectomy and the transient ileum that normally follows these procedures is minimized. This results in great advantages of the laparoscopic procedure including remarkable reduction in post-operative pain, short hospital stay and early return to activity. Further more both the abdominal scar and the complications attendants to a laparotomy are avoided. The procedure should be undertaken by fully trained general surgeons with expertise in biliary surgery. In addition the surgeon also requires training in laparoscopy and must be fully competent using a two-dimensional television camera during the operation. It is recommended that Laparoscopic Cholycystectomy has to be alternative surgical technique for the treatment of gall stone disease. It is safe, cost-effective procedure with great advantages both to the patient and to society. |
