Abstract
This thesis includes a pharmacognostical study and
phytochemical investigation 01 two plants growing in Egypt and belonging to family Compositae (tribe Ciohorieae)
The two plants are Urospern!um picroides (L.) P.W. Schmidt and Cichorium pumilum Jacq., The findings of the work can be briefly mentioned as follows :

A- Iwiacro morphology of the leaL and_stem;
An annual, erect herb about 50 cm. hi
The leaf :
Simple, exstipulate, sos3ile, lamina, slightly pubescent, green, oblong, spathulate, entire, pinnatifid. or lyrate,
clasping at the base, with bi-dentate margin and acute apec.
The stem ;
.xect, green, rough pubescent, monopdia1ly branched.

Dorsiventral with 2 layers 01 palisade abutting on the upper epidermis.. Upper epidernl cells polygonal with
slightly curved anticlinal walls, covered with smooth cuticle,
