Abstract

The aim of the study was to clinically and laboratory assess for 3 months duration in order to shed light on the effect of old and new some NSAIDs, (indomethacin, naproxen and diclofenac sodium) with in compare to prednisolone in treatment of R. A.
In this study, the results of the clinical assessment showed a highly significant improvement in the articular index, duration of the morning stiffness, grip strength and significant or nonsignificant improvement in functional capacity.
The results of the laboratory assessment showed in E.S.R., a nonsignificant improvement in all groups except in corticosteroid group which showed a highly significant improvement.
As regard of R.F., a fall in R.F. titre was evident. The decrease was significant in group’s Ι & ΙΙΙ and highly significant in group’s ΙΙ and ΙV while the results of immunoglobulin reached after 3 months treatment denoting that in IgM, there was a significant decrease in group’s Ι, ΙΙ and ΙΙΙ but the decrease highly significant in group ΙV. As regarding Igc & IgA a non significant decrease was detected in all groups.
So long as the etiology and cure of RA are unknown and the pathogenesis is not understood fully, new drugs for use in this disease will continue to be developed. Although there are already a large number of NSAIDs available, we are still waiting for the ideal one that combines very high efficacy with maximum safety.
