Abstract

The aim of this work was to assess the quantitive and the qualitative platelet dysfunction and its correlation to the immunological changes in Bilharzial Hepatosplenomegaly.
We can conclude from this study the following:
1- According to this study the presence of platelets antibodies, in patients with Bilharzial Hepatosplenomegaly, had been proved.
2- The observed quantitative and qualitative platelet defects in those patients had been correlated to the presence of platelet antibodies and the concomitant immune disturbance.
3- The significantly high level of C3c (activation product of C3) with a normal level of C4 signifies activation of the alternative complement pathway.
4- The inverse correlation between C3c and platelet count means that the immune complex is involved in platelet destruction.
5- The platelet antibody belongs to the IgM class.
