Abstract The breast is considered as an important site in the body where the hormonal contraceptive operate a define action. As the contraceptive hormones suppress the natural fluctuation of endogenous hormones during menstrual cycle, occurrence of breast diseases might be expected. This work is carried out to determine any correlation between administration of different hormonal contraceptives and developing of breast diseases. As a conclusion in the present study no causal relation could be established between hormonal contraception and benign or malignant breast diseases after one year of use. The non proliferative type of fibrocystic disease showed marked improvement with hormonal contraceptives containing large dose of progesterone and the improvement may be related to the duration of use. According to the present study the use of hormonal contraception is safe and possibly beneficial with regard to breast lesion within one year of use. However a bigger and longer study might be needed to confirm these findings. |
