Abstract The aim of this study was to evaluate the efficacy of different doses of sublingual misoprostol in the management of third stage of labour and to compare these results which the results of traditional pharmacological drugs given routinely in the management of the third stage of labour namely intramuscular methyl ergonovine. Conclusion: Misoprostol is inexpensive, easily stored; easily administrated and effective uterotonic agent has much indication in obstetrics. One of its important indications is its use in the third stage labour and in the management of the post partum haemorrhage. It reduces the blood loss in the third stage of labour; the blood loss is negatively correlated with misoprostol administrated. It also reduce the incidence of sever PPH (i.e. more than 1000ml); it was 0.18% in our study. The use of misoprostol in a high doses e.g. 800mcg or 1000mcg may be the drug of choice in the management of the third stage of labour in the further especially in the developing country. |
