Abstract
The present work aims at shedding some light on the levels of calcium and prostaglandins (PGE2 and PGF2 α) in blood and uterine muscle in normal and abnormal uterine action.
The results obtained in this study revealed that calcium and prostaglandins F2α showed significant changes in abnormal uterine action with marked decrease in hypotonic and an increase in hypertonic uterine contraction, whereas PGE2 showed no significant changes.
Also, although the best of our knowledge there was no previous study that estimated the levels of PGE2, calcium and PGF2 α in uterine muscle, theses parameters showed similar changes in these obtained in blood.
These changes could incriminate PGF2 α and calcium in the pathogenesis of these abnormal uterine actions.
However, this could imply that further studies are needed before generalization of these findings.
